What is Chiikawa Mogumogu Honpo?
Chiikawa Mogumogu Honpo is a Chiikawa shop with a traditional Japanese theme. Think sweet treats, festival-style snacks and goods inspired by kimono, fans and Japanese patterns, all with Chiikawa's cosy charm. The Kyoto Fushimi shop was the first to open, right on the busy approach to Fushimi Inari Taisha, one of Kyoto's most famous shrines with its endless red torii gates. Since then the brand has grown to include shops in Kawagoe and Otaru, and each one has its own local designs. Fans love it because the goods feel like a little piece of a trip to Japan.
Maiko and geiko mascots: the stars of the anniversary
The Kyoto Fushimi designs are the ones everyone is talking about. Maiko are apprentice geiko, famous for their colourful kimono, ornate hair pieces and elegant manners, and Kyoto is the city most closely linked with them. Seeing Chiikawa and friends in this style is a perfect fit for a Kyoto anniversary.
- Maiko Mascot (Chiikawa): Chiikawa in a soft pink kimono with a fan, flower hair ornaments and a tall maiko hairstyle
- Maiko Mascot (Hachiware): Hachiware in a pale blue kimono with a matching fan and hair pieces
- Geiko Mascot (Usagi): Usagi in a darker, more grown-up geiko look, with a shamisen-style instrument

Each mascot is about 125 x 110 x 60mm and comes on a ball chain, so it can hang from a bag or sit happily on a shelf. The detail on the kimono, from the obi sash to the tiny fans, makes them feel like proper collector's pieces.

Kimono mascots for the whole gang
If you prefer a full set, the kimono-style mascots are for you. There are eight in total, and they are part of the collection sold across all Mogumogu Honpo shops:
- Chiikawa
- Hachiware
- Usagi
- Momonga
- Kurimanju
- Shisa
- Rakko
- The Bookshop Owner (Furuhonya)
Each one wears a little kimono jacket in a soft pastel shade, with a ball chain on top. Lined up together they look like they are heading to a summer festival, and the Bookshop Owner is a lovely surprise for fans who adore the side characters.

Chirimen and jacquard pieces for every day
The shared collection also includes some beautiful everyday pieces made from chirimen, a traditional Japanese crepe fabric with a soft, crinkled texture. There are chirimen clasp purses (gamaguchi), chirimen pouches and chirimen drawstring bags in Chiikawa, Hachiware and Usagi designs, plus puffy jacquard pouches, wire pouches and pochettes. Small extras such as mini lantern magnets and mini frame magnets round off the range. These are the kind of goods that work as gifts as well as treats for yourself.

Anniversary extras at the Kyoto shop
To mark the occasion, the Kyoto Fushimi shop is giving away anniversary gifts with purchases from 13 November, including an acrylic connector charm (one of eight designs, chosen at random) and a die-cut hand towel for bigger orders, while stocks last. Because the shop expects to be very busy, entry from 13 to 15 November is managed through advance reservations.
