Who is Sadako?
Sadako is the vengeful spirit at the heart of the Ring story, first in Koji Suzuki's novels and then in the hugely influential Japanese film series. With her long black hair hiding her face, her white dress and her cursed videotape, she became the image of the modern Japanese ghost and inspired horror fans around the world. Her slow crawl out of a television screen is still one of the most famous scenes in horror cinema.
What is the HORROR Bishoujo line?
Kotobukiya's Bishoujo series reimagines characters from comics, games and films in a Japanese illustration style, based on new artwork by Shunya Yamashita. The HORROR Bishoujo branch applies that approach to famous horror icons, keeping the eerie atmosphere of the originals while adding Yamashita's elegant character design. Sadako is a perfect fit: unsettling and beautiful at the same time.

Two ways to display her
The figure comes with two interchangeable hair parts so you can choose how frightening she looks. One recreates the classic image of Sadako with her long black hair completely covering her face. The other parts the hair just enough to reveal a single lonely, beautiful eye peering out at you. Switching between them changes the whole mood of the piece, so you can keep her subtle on a shared shelf or go all out for Halloween.

A wet white dress and chilling details
Sadako's white dress is made with clear material to show how the thin fabric clings after rising from the water of the well. The sculpt also includes some grim little touches faithful to the story: her finger and toenails are coloured red where they were torn while she tried to climb out of the well, which almost looks like a red manicure until you remember why. Her long hair is sculpted in flowing waves with subtle brown highlights at the tips, giving it real movement.

A mountain of cursed videotapes
The base is a pile of old VHS cassettes, with Sadako floating above it as if held up by her psychic powers. The tape spilling out of the cassettes can be arranged however you like, and two rolls of decoration tape, including spares, come packed in their own videotape-style box so you can use as much or as little as you want. Kotobukiya also says one of the tapes in the pile looks a little different from the rest, a small surprise for owners to find for themselves.

Why Sadako makes a great Halloween pick
Horror figures can be hard to display, but Sadako balances spooky and stylish beautifully. At 17 cm she sits comfortably next to other 1/7 scale figures, the white dress pops against dark shelves, and the tape lets you create a scene that feels different every time you rearrange it. She is also a great choice for film fans who want something iconic from Japanese horror rather than another anime character.
