Kaiju No. 8: The Final Mission Film Announced for 2027, Plus Narumi Gen Figures in the UK

Kafka Hibino's story is heading for the big screen one last time. On 24 October 2026, at the "Defence Force Boot Camp in Tachikawa" fan event, the Kaiju No. 8 team announced Kaiju No. 8: The Final Mission, a new anime film set to open in Japan in 2027.

The announcement came with a super teaser visual and the striking tagline "The age of humans comes to an end." It is the strongest sign yet that the anime is building towards the climax of Naoya Matsumoto's manga. Here is everything we know so far, along with the Narumi Gen figures you can pre-order in the UK right now.

What was announced?

The film was revealed live on stage at the Tachikawa event, which brought the voice cast together in front of fans. Production I.G, the studio behind the TV anime, returns for the film, and Shigeyuki Miya takes the director's chair. The super teaser visual sets a dark, final-battle tone, and the title makes it clear that this is the big finale fans have been waiting for.

Masaya Fukunishi, the voice of Kafka Hibino, shared a fun detail with the audience: he will turn 32 next year, the same age as Kafka. Many fans already feel he was born for the role, and finishing the story on the big screen at Kafka's own age is a lovely touch.

Why this film matters

Kaiju No. 8 follows Kafka, a man who dreams of joining the Japan Defence Force but ends up gaining the power to turn into a kaiju himself. The manga wrapped up its story in Shonen Jump+, and the anime has steadily worked through its biggest arcs. A film titled The Final Mission suggests the team wants to give the ending the scale it deserves, with cinema-level action and animation.

For UK fans, the news is also a great reason to catch up on the series and grow your Defence Force collection before the film arrives.

POP UP PARADE Narumi Gen

Gen Narumi, the Defence Force's strongest captain and the commander of the 1st Division, is one of the most popular characters in the series. Good Smile Company's POP UP PARADE figure shows him in his combat suit at about 17 cm tall, with a base included. POP UP PARADE figures are known for strong sculpting at an accessible price, so he is an easy pick for any shelf.

Nendoroid Narumi Gen

If you prefer something cute, the Nendoroid Narumi Gen is about 10 cm tall and comes with a composed face, a smiling face and a serious face. His personal weapon and Defence Force mask are included, so you can switch between laid-back Narumi and battle-ready Narumi.
